Anonymous and Lulzec Acknowledge Partnership

Hacker groups Anonymous and Lulzsec have turned out to be partners rather than foes.  Recently, it had been reported that there was a rift between the two, with one attacking the partners of the other.  Lulzec and Anonymous began to argue after the criticism Lulz made of users and various video game websites.

As it turns out, those arguments were a flash in the pan and wholly irrelevant.  According to both groups today, they are partners that will undertake a “carpet-bombing” campaign against government websites.  The maliciousness of those attacks will be unclear.  They certainly will be disruptive.  They have already made several attacks, including the most recent ones that targeted the U.S. Senate and the C.I.A.’s home webpages.

Anonymous released a statement on their twitter page, “Attention #Media: about #Lulzsec and #Anonymous, we are not at war. We are bros of teh internetz. Also, /b/ != Anonymous”.  This is the first public statement made by the two groups pointing to their growing partnership.  It had originally been just speculation–with knowledge of originating members existing at the genesis of both groups.

Anonymous has more of the reputation of being hactivists making political and social statements.  Lulzsec, on the other hand targeted the security loopholes of private companies.  Both have made off with private user information.  Not until recently have we noticed a blurring of ideals between the two hacking groups.  This is not a good sign for public and private entities alike.
