Groupon Hits the 115 Million Member Mark

people throwing moneyGroupon’s meteoric rise continues as their membership reaches 115 million.

The start-up company that spurned Google has been getting its fair share of hype. In fact, many believed their decision to go at it alone would result in their eventual downfall.  Surprisingly exactly the opposite happened.

The online coupon company had roughly five and a half million users at the end of 2010.  Somehow, they managed to jump up to 83 million in just a few short months,  By the end of the 1st quarter, they were looking at a 64 percent jump in memberships.

Now, with the company reaching the 115 million user mark, a 38% increase since March 31st, they have adequately exonerated themselves and their controversial decision making.

However, despite all of their recent success, Groupon will have to compete against more and more large corporations hoping to capitalize on similar discount services.  Google and Facebook are looking to put a fighter in the ring, and they will have considerably larger constituencies to sell to.  Though, with that said, one can’t help but be impressed with the progress Groupon has made in a years time.
