Nintendo Used PS3 and Xbox 360 Footage in E3 Wii U Presentation

Nintendo used PS3 and Xbox 360 footage for their presentation of the Wii U at the E3 convention in Los Angeles.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that the images displayed were indeed from those systems. However, he insisted that the Wii U will have comparable graphics in a statement made to  The Wii U will be a HD 1080P console.  So, because the system is expected to arrive in 2012, they have yet to attain any new footage to preview for the E3 event.

The video clips of Assassin’s Creed and Ghost Recon were derived from the PS3 and the Xbox 360.  Reggie Fils-Aime felt Nintendo was well within their rights to do so because the “experience” of the Wii U will be very similar.

This is not really too big of an ordeal, despite those who like to make it as one.  For the critics of Nintendo, and the hardcore audience of PS3 and Xbox 360, sure, they may take some pleasure in the “next generation Nintendo console” using previous generation PS and Xbox footage.  But really, its just a display of HD graphics.

Nintendo’s Wii U hopes to entice many of those critics to give their newest system a whirl.  With the addition of their new touchscreen controller and countless new capabilities it introduces to the gaming experience, they might just be able to do that.

The cost, on the other hand, may be an issue.  The controller alone looks as though it would cost a pretty penny.  It is practically an iPad-like controller.  Nintendo has yet to release a figure.  Hopefully it is reasonable.  Nintendo has done well in recent memory keeping their consoles below market level.  It is my opinion it will parallel PS3 and Xbox 360 prices–given that they have now made the jump to HD 1080P.
